A very, very funny film, released in 2009, is “Confessions of a Shopaholic”.
It’s directed by PJ Hogan, and the story is about a girl who’s a compulsive buyer of clothes and accessories, in a NYC full of sparkling shop windows and fashionable temptations at every corner.
You can watch the trailer HERE.
The protagonist, Isla Fischer, had the nice opportunity to wear fabulous clothes, as well as to play a really funny role. The costume designer is Pat Field.
Full, bright colors outfits, some of them are also suitable for work situations. A red-haired woman can safely wear a pink shirt as we see here, with just “a bit” of eccentricity. The set is balanced by the black and white coat (by Matthew Williamson) and the dark grey skirt with black stripes, so that the rose becomes a strength. That’s very different from the usual business suit.
Adding an orange bag and purple gloves, could be risky for someone. Personally, the choice seems amazing to me, but obviously you need to have an eye for matching shades, as it isn’t said that all the purples, oranges and pinks go well together.
There’s a scene where she finds herself asking questions, of which she even doesn’t know the meaning, in the middle of a conference with all people dressed in dark colors. The contrast with her pink blouse is very effective. All the attention is on her, and visually speaking it is a real choice of composition.
So…what are you waiting for to be noticed with a nice touch of color? Remember that there are colors that make your skin more beautiful, and a touch of color can save you hours to makeup and hair! Even if, however, I would not ignore them…but that’s another story!
